Matte Black - Der Steppenwolf

There once was a bike builder in Korea. His name was 'D' and his shop was called Matte Black. D, for lack of a better term, was a genius. He built some of the sickest bikes the Icon staff has ever seen. These weren't just bikes but incredible rolling biomechanical sculptures. D's bikes had a style all their own. We shot these photos a few years back when D was having an open house. Chicken, Kimchi, OB, RatFighters, and hot Seoul nights - awesome. This particular bike is called Der Steppenwolf. Peep the offset shaft drive to clear the Mercedes military truck wheel. Ridiculous. From what we've been able to piece together D got out of the bike building profession. Which is definitely a shame - our world needs more D's.

Just for the record - the Icon Garage Team does not share the opinions of the Matte Black Garage Team when it comes to Apgujeong...

DTC in the PDX

Here's Nol from Dutch Trash Choppers giving a friendly lift to Icon's helmet developer, Justin. 'Funny' you say - that Icon's professional helmet guru would be riding monkey on a Shovelhead powered deathmachine through suburban Portland streets - all the while without a helmet or gear of any kind. Funny indeed. As a punishment for this gross dereliction of duty Justin was downgraded to riding monkey in the Icon Garage Team's pocket hack.

Warthog

Concept and execution.

Veterans Day

Icon has always been a champion of the men and women of America's armed services. Indeed, Icon was started by a Navy veteran as well as having other veterans now serving on the Icon team. We are proud of both our armed services and our country and will continue to develop riding products to keep our servicemen safe. To all the vets out there - thank you for your contributions and sacrifices.

Logo Critique

There's nothing like rolling into the shop on a grey Portland morning, fresh cup of venti in hand, to find a handwritten design critique stuffed in the door. Thanks for the advice Jenna. You're a champ. We're going to contact your 'Intro to Graphic Design' professor and get you that gold star you so clearly desire. In the mean time keep an eye on your commercial art dreams and your leg hair away from your fixie's sprocket. Cheers.

Nick Apex

Some of you might remember that Nick Apex won the XDL Championship last year. Well, he's back at it again this year. If you want to see where the sport of sportbike freestyle has progressed too, check out Nick and Ernie (his partner in crime) when XDL rolls through your town. In the mean time peep the video blog update Nick made from last year.
