Sachs Beast

 

A fighter concept from Sachs circa 2001. Best known for their mopeds, Sachs threw down this wild concept with some help from Target designs studios. If memory serves correctly, the powerplant on the 'beast' was a Suzuki TL1000 with revamped heads to serve as a stressed member. 

Visions

The airborne particulates rained down in an ashen flurry. The charred refuse of humanity - of civility. He always knew it would end like this. The twisted metal shrines perched atop the ruptured asphalt remnants of society.  A battlefield of remote SUV's and tweaking truckers. This is why he had spent his life preparing. The countless hours of urban close-quarters riding practice. The years of mental solitude and ritual bike crafting. And of course the hording of gear. Specifically the helmet. A laminated carbon shell specifically equipped for the years of hardship to come. It's shape dictated by the jagged landscape. A peripherally extended eyeport to increase his situational awareness. Venting and nex-gen liners that allowed him to ride for extended hours should the situation demand it. And of course the composite structure of energy management carbon and foam should it all go wrong. He had paid the price, now he would reap the rewards. 

Dust Busting

We're not quite sure what was in the water from 1984-1990, but from an industrial design point of view it was fantastic. An era of  'dust buster' streamlining when design was still done with chartpak AD's and prismacolors. A time before rapid prototypes when the future was shaped in bondo, clay, and foam. The last generation of designers required to actually draw - before the computer killed our craft. In solemn remembrance of that special time, Icon turns up the Depeche Mode and raises a strawberry Bartles & Jaymes. Via Con Dios late-eighties, you will be missed.

1990 EZ-90 Cub from Honda - a mint one now sits in the Icon office - there is no denying what we are .

 1989 CBR600F1 - defining the 80's with mass appeal plastic wrapped style - the white, red, and blue being the best colorway offered. This particular example is a recent addition to the Icon Garage Team's harem.

 

The Lamborghini Countach in white - an ashtray full of blow and head full of mousse - the ultimate players whip. Oh yes, someday she will be mine....

The origin of a species - say what you want but as a stylistic icon this vacuum rules. Ironically, as an actual vacuum it sucked.
