Variant at Speed

  1. It's a great helmet! Love the look of it so I picked up one last week. It's very aerodynamic even at higher speeds. I love the visor for the later afternoons when I'm riding into the sun. Great air ventilation (just a little on the noisy side) I do want to pick up a tinted visor as soon as I can. Trust if you are out in this you DEFINITELY get some looks!

  2. Well said Tyger. Guys who have tried this helmet understand that it fantastic all-purpose street helmet. We've had it well into the triple digits (closed course of course;) and it is very stable and quiet. And SHOCK!! - it did not "rip our heads off". Nope, just checked - our heads are still attached. While we wouldn't recommend the Variant for sustained 120+ track use, we would highly recommen it for the other 99% of riding. Hell, we've even got chopper and Beemer guys running this lid. The fact is that it just works.

  3. i like this helmet, and hope to one day be able to afford it. if icon made a cheaper quality helmet based on the variant i would snatch it up as soon as i could. like how bell made a cheap $100's range version of the star.

  4. Hey Loosenoose - Of course we're always looking into ways to reduce costs. The current economic climate demands it. But in the end quality design and manufacturing costs money. The Variant in particular is an extremely difficult helmet to produce - that complexity plays a large part in the end cost. All that said, we promise to do everything we can to contain costs and continue producing affordable quality gear. The Icon staff is living through these tough times just like everyone else and we feel your pain.

  5. well put mr. icon staff guy in charge of responding to blogs. Cheap helmets are just that, cheap. Someday soon, I too, will buy this helmet (the variant), until then I will simply watch the videos and pine away...and maybe enter a contest or two in the meantime and try to score a free or reduced cost one. Thank you for the witty, clever posts icon staff (sincerely)... in the mc world there are a lot of d bags and I personally appreciate your sense of humor.. for real.
